I've been looking forward to reading this book for ages. Finally, the day came when I was gifted with the chance to read it for English class. (wee bit of sarcasm, but lotta truth)
The book takes place in the 1930's during the Great Depression in Macomb County, Alabama. It's written from Scout Finch's point of view. She is about seven or eight during the story and she learns about racism, justice, and growing up throughout the book. It shows the terrible unfairness racism has on a society and Lee uses the innocence of a young girl to show the unjustness of prejudice.
To Kill a Mockingbird is an easy read. It has applicable life lessons, humor, and is set in an interesting time. I definitely recommend it. Thank you my fellow English teachers.
xx. Sarah.
